Mc ART'S FORT - CAVEHILL

Mc Art's fort at Cavehill is undoubtably a significant focal point for republicans across Belfast and beyond, it was here that Henry joy mc Cracken and Wolfetone met to help establish the UNITED IRISHMEN and take an oath to plan the 1798 rebellion,  it was also here that Henry joy was captured in 1798.

The immediate origins of the 1798 Rebellion in Ireland can be traced to the setting up of the Society of United Irishmen in Belfast in October 1791. Inspired by the French Revolution, and with great admiration for the new democracy of the United States, the United Irishmen were led by Theobald Wolfe Tone, Thomas Russell, Henry Joy McCracken and William Drennan. They came together to secure a reform of the Irish parliament; and they sought to achieve this goal by uniting Protestant, Catholic and Dissenter in Ireland into a single movement.

They made a solemn oath, to break the connection with England

So it's ironic that we have Belfast city council allocating THOUSANDS of pounds of ratepayers money [ our money] to celebrate the British queens Diamond jubilee , including lighting a beacon on this historic site - this can only be described as an insult to those brave protestants and catholics who fought and died side by side to remove British rule.

Belfast 32csm call on those within Belfast city council [including sinn fein] who backed the funding for this event to rethink their actions and  to abandon this offensive charade!
The 32csm will actively oppose any such imperialist display at Mc Art's Fort
