The Belfast 32CSM would like to condemn the recent attempt
by the British Security Services to recruit an activist in Belfast. Following
his recent visit to Maghaberry to see a good friend he has been stopped twice
in the first incident in North Belfast. He was pulled over in Ligoniel by two
unmarked cars, on that occasion a RUC/PSNI man asked him could he provide a
phone number in case he wanted to chat. After telling the RUC/PSNI man that he
would not be giving him his phone number, his car was ransacked and he was told
he was free to go.
On the second occasion it became more sinister on Wednesday
16th April, he was driving on the Ravenhill Road in Belfast when he was pulled
over again, after handing over his driving licence the RUC/PSNI man walked away
and within 20 seconds two plain clothes individuals appeared either side of his
car and told him to open the door. When he asked them who they were and what
they wanted they told him to open the doors and that they were British Security
Services.
After they got into his car they preceded to threaten him
and his family, saying that if he didn’t co-operate with them they would make
sure he didn’t see his upcoming holiday. After he told them in no certain terms
that he would not be co-operating they left the car shouting threats at him.
The man in question has since been to his solicitor. We would ask that people
on the receiving end of the same harassment to contact their solicitor and or
local media.
